The thought of dipping below the surface at night seems mysterious, yet so alluring.
Scuba diving at night teaches you to focus on what you can see in your light’s beam, controlling your buoyancy by feel, staying with your buddy and paying attention to details you may overlook during the day. THE FUN PART

As the sun sets, you put on your dive gear, slip on your scuba mask and inhale through your dive regulator. A deep breath and you step off the jetty or boat – into the underwater night. Although you’ve been diving here many times before, this time you drop into a whole new world of mystery and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light. Experience the mysterious nocturnal world and be introduced to critters and night feeders that have just awoken. Wrecks become a little more haunting in the absence of light and it is a real thrill to descend with your dive buddies into the black, amongst the alien like look of dive lights scanning the abyss.

WHAT YOU LEARN

During three night dives, you will practice and learn about:

  • Dive lights and night diving equipment
  • Night dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential problems
  • How to control your buoyancy at night
  • Light handling and communication techniques.
  • Entering, exiting and navigating in the dark.
  • Identifying how nocturnal plants and animals differ
  • Examine behavioral changes of some species at night.

MATERIALS

You’ll Need a Night-Pak, which includes PADI Night Diver Manual and the award-winning PADI Night Diving video.

EQUIPMENT

You must have your own dive light (available for purchase at the store if you do not already own one) + basic dive gear as required.

PREREQUISITIES

Must be a PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization) and 12 years old.

YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

The PADI Night Diver Speciality Certification counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

Perhaps pair this course with and improve your navigation skills with the PADI Underwater Navigator course. Get your buoyancy perfected with the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course. Or perhaps you would simply like to recognise all those mysterious night critters are on your dive with the AWARE Fish Identification course.

This is a first rate place to learn how to dive. Brad's team is well organized, experienced, enthusiastic...and nice people! They don't cut corners on the training but help you through it. And they make it fun. My final checkout dive was delayed by a family matter so a few weeks later Brad the owner took me though it one-on-one. You can't get more dedicated than that. After certifying I did my first mid-week dive at Gulliver's Lake and what a great way to gain experience when you start out. I'm looking forward to many years at Float N Flag and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn recreational diving.
