DEEP DIVER

Imagine diving a bit deeper to look back up at the surface and feel in awe of the fact you are breathing underwater and 130 feet below the surface. The Deep Diver Specialty course offers you the opportunity of a lifetime – going deep to see things others can only dream about.

THE FUN PART

Whether we watched a fictional movie of the deep, or curiously watched a video of the Titanic, there is definitely a lure of the deep. The fun part about this course is the opportunity to safely explore the waters to depths that others cannot fathom. It’s exhilarating.
Maybe it’s a wreck that sits below 18 metres/60 feet,a giant fan or sponge on a wall or a whale shark that is swimming beneath you. Whatever it is, to scuba dive with confidence at depths down to 40 metres/130 feet, you will want to take the PADI Deep Diver Specialty course.

WHAT YOU LEARN

Your training starts by reviewing reasons for deep diving and how important it is to know your personal limits. You will participate in four open water dives that range from 18 – 40 metres / 60 – 130 feet.

During these dives you will:

  • Understand the Specialized deep diving equipment.
  • Techniques for diving in the deeper range of 18-40 metres/ 60-130 feet
  • Managing your gas supply, dealing with gas narcosis and safety considerations
  • Deep dive planning, buddy contact procedures and buoyancy control.

EQUIPMENT

You’ll need a dive computer along with the rest of your basic scuba equipment. A dive light and slate are also recommended.

LEARNING MATERIALS

Your PADI Pack for Deep Diver Certification includes reading materials for this course.

PREREQUISITES

  • Must be a PADI Adventure Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization) and 15 years old
  • Experience diving beyond 18 metres/60 feet
  • Certification counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

Many shipwrecks are often found in deeper water. That’s why the PADI Deep Diver course is a natural companion to the PADI Wreck Diver course. Sometimes you can take these two specialties concurrently.

If you suspect you will like to spend as much time as possible at these depths, you may want to consider learning about a TEC 40 course or the PADI Enriched Air Diver course to understand how mixed gas impacts deeper dives.

All of these courses keep you on track for to PADI Master Scuba Diver.
