EMERGENCY OXYGEN PROVIDER

Being prepared and able for emergencies is a valuable asset to have as a dive buddy in or out of the water. With the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider training course, you will be the one ready to help a fellow diver should the need arise.

THE FUN PART

No one wished for misfortune, but wouldn’t you want to know you helped someone improve their chances for recovery in the unfortunate event of an emergency?

Breathe easy—knowing that you will know how to recognize illnesses treatable by emergency oxygen. Being the best buddy you can be means being willing and prepared – especially in a time of need.

Wouldn’t you want to be diving with someone that was trained on administering Emergency Oxygen, to help you, should the situation arise?

WHAT YOU LEARN

You’ll learn about dive injuries, different types of emergency oxygen equipment and safety considerations when using oxygen. You will learn to understand and recognize diving illnesses treatable by emergency oxygen. You will also be confident in travelling abroad, knowing how to safely select your next dive outfitter and ensuring they have the necessary safety equipment on board.

Then you’ll practice:

  • Assembling and disassembling emergency oxygen equipment.
  • Deploying a non-rebreather mask and a demand inhalator valve on a breathing diver.
  • Using a pocket mask on a nonbreathing diver.
  • Administer emergency oxygen

THE SCUBA GEAR YOU USE

Scuba gear is not necessary to take this course.

Your PADI Instructor will have emergency oxygen units available to use for training and a team member at FLOAT N FLAG can help you purchase your own unit for use after the class. You’ll also need to have a disposable non-rebreather mask to use during practice sessions, which your instructor can help provide.

THE LEARNING MATERIALS

The course materials include the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider e-learning module, which is an important component of PADI’s Emergency Oxygen training program. Before class, you’ll review a step-by-step explanation of when and how to provide emergency oxygen. The care-at-a-glance card is a quick reference guide to pack in your gear bag and review in case of an emergency.

PREREQUISITES

Though suited for divers, this course has no prerequisites and doesn’t include dives, which means it is equally applicable to those who are around divers – boat crew, non-diving buddies, lifeguards, and shore staff. You don’t need any previous CPR or first aid training to take the course.

YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

The Emergency First Response certification, which covers CPR and first aid, pairs perfectly with the Emergency Oxygen Provider course. You’ll also want to be sure to complete your Rescue Diver and Master Scuba Diver rating to be the best prepared dive buddy around.
