NITROX DIVER

Welcome to one of PADI’s most popular specialties – the PADI Enriched Air Diver course. Diving with enriched air (nitrox) lets you safely extend your bottom time beyond the no decompression limits for air. Diving with enriched air means more time underwater – but you need to be certified as an Enriched Air Diver to get enriched air filled tanks, as there are special safety considerations associated with nitrox.

Whether you’re into underwater photography or wreck diving, on vacation in some tropical paradise or just out for a leisurely day of diving at your local dive site, the PADI Enriched Air Diver course helps you get more out of diving by giving you more time underwater.

PREREQUISITE

Must be a PADI Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization).

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

You’ll learn why diving with air that has higher oxygen and lower nitrogen content gives you more bottom time, along with specific enriched air equipment considerations. During a practical session, and two optional (or required) scuba dives, you will :

  • Discuss managing oxygen exposure
  • Practice and understand the importance of analyzing oxygen content in your scuba tank
  • Set your dive computer for diving with enriched air nitrox
  • Plan enriched air dives using tables and dive computers
  • Safely increase your no stop time
  • Certification counts toward the Master Scuba Diver rating

EQUIPMENT

Most modern scuba equipment and dive computers can be used with enriched air, but your PADI Instructor will let you know if your gear meets manufacturer recommendations and local requirements. However, scuba tanks must meet oxygen service standards and be dedicated for use with enriched air. You’ll practice using oxygen analyzers and recognize special cylinder decals. Your PADI Dive Center will explain other equipment you may need to enjoy enriched air diving.

YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

Enriched Diver will enhance any dive. To develop more skills consider enrolling in Wreck Diving, Boat Diving or Altitude Diving to learn more about how to get the most out of your dives in different environments. TEC Diving is where you become introduced to other mixed gases and is instrumental for Deep Diving and Cave Diving specialities.

This is a first rate place to learn how to dive. Brad's team is well organized, experienced, enthusiastic...and nice people! They don't cut corners on the training but help you through it. And they make it fun. My final checkout dive was delayed by a family matter so a few weeks later Brad the owner took me though it one-on-one. You can't get more dedicated than that. After certifying I did my first mid-week dive at Gulliver's Lake and what a great way to gain experience when you start out.
